Five dead, six injured in a fire at Covid Hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat.


Five persons burnt to death and six others critically injured after a fire broke out in the ICU Ward of a COVID-19 centre, Uday Shivanand Covid Hospital at Mavdi area of Rajkot on Friday, at around 1 am.

Fire Brigade personnel safely evacuated thirty Covid patients undergoing treatment at the hospital, but the cause of fire break-out was yet to be ascertained. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered an investigation into the mishap.

As the Fire Brigade received information about the fire, they swiftly reached the scene and began rescue efforts. There were 33 Covid patients admitted to the hospital, unfortunately, three of them died of burn injuries. The rescued patients were shifted to another Covid centre whereas the six injured were admitted to two other facilities run by Gokul Hospital, a private hospital that also runs the Uday Shivananda Hospital and the bodies of deceased were taken to the PDU hospital for post-mortem.
