Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Nov 29
An Assistant Commandant of Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF)- Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) was killed and seven others were injured in an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blast triggered by ultras in insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, said a senior police officer.
The blast took place at Arbaraj Metta Hills under Chintagufa police station limits late last night when security personnel were undertaking anti-naxal exercise, added the officer.
“Assistant Commandant Nitin Bhalerao was martyred in the incident while seven others including Second in Command Dinesh suffered injuries in the blast,” informed officer, elaborating that Bhalerao was the native of Nasik in Maharashtra.
Police officer further informed that on November 28, a joint team of CoBRA’s 206th battalion, Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched the exercise from Chintalnar/Burkapal/Chintagufa base camps. Late last evening, an incident of IED blast leaving eight personnel injured was reported near Arabraj Metta Hills.
“The injured security personnel were rushed to Chintalnar Field Hospital and later airlifted to Raipur for better medical assistances. Assistant Commandant Nitin Bhalerao succumbed to his injuries in Raipur during wee hours while others personnel are under constant medical observation. The condition of injured personnel is reported to be stable right now and believed to be out of danger,” stated police officials.
