Panic gripped Katghora Sub-Jail in Korba district of Chhattisgarh after 98 prisoners were tested positive for Novel Coronavirus.
“As many as 98 prisoners in the sub-jail were tested positive for COVID-19. The prisoners, who were tested positive for the virus, have mild symptoms like cold, fever and headache. The positive prisoners have been quarantined at separate barracks,” said Block Medical Officer (BMO) Katghora Dr Rudrapal Singh Kanwar, who is also the jail superintendent.
Dr Kanwar further informed that the testing of jail staff will be carried out today. Similarly, the new prisoners, who have been kept in isolation after the requisite tests, will also be subjected to the examination on today.
Three barracks in the sub-jail have been developed as COVID ward and treatment of positive prisoners has started. As a preventive measure the sub-jail premises have been sanitized.
Dr Kanwar further informed that on November 27, an inmate was tested positive for the virus. After the prisoner complained of fever and problems in breathing, he was subjected to the test and he was found positive for the virus following which other prisoners in the jail were tested.
Meanwhile, sources in the Jail Headquarters averred that around 166 prisoners were subjected to the test.
