Dhamtari Police recovered the hide of a leopard from a motorcyclist at on Kotabharri road on November 28. Police also arrested the man identified as one Kumbhlal Netam.
On the direction of Dhamtari Superintendent of Police (SP) BP Rajbhanu, police have increased vigilance against the smuggling of wild animals and wildlife pelts in the district. On November 28th, a reliable source tipped-off the police about a man looking to dispose of leopard hide on motorcycle and the suspected man was headed Kotabharri on a motorcycle.
Police team comprising of Nagri Police Station in-charge Vinay Kumar Pammar and personnel formed under the guidance of ASP Manisha Kumar Rawte and SDOP Nitish Kumar was sent to reported spot.
The team stopped the suspected motorcycle and interrogated the biker. Man introduced himself as village Ratawa resident Kumbhlal Netam. As the police probed his motorcycle, the leopard hide was found stashed in a white bag. Police also confiscated his Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle CG-04-K-5182.
Police invoked Section 9, 39 (B), 51, 52 of Protection of Wildlife Act 1972 and Section 3 of Defacement of Public Property Act. Accused Kumbhlal was sent on Judicial Remand after producing in a Court. Kumbhlal Netam (40) is a resident of Ratawa under Sihawa Police Station in Dhamtari.
