A Muslim boy reportedly cruelly slit the throat of a 16-year-old Hindu girl after she turning down his advances in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. Accused Saiyed Ali, a daily wage labourer, fatally attacked Ritika at a field where she was harvesting crops at village Baghuta under Sikanderpur Police Station, where she lived with her maternal grandparents, on November 29.
According to the reports, Ritika lived with her maternal grandfather at village Baghuta. On a fateful day, Ritika, daughter of Suresh Sahni, had gone to harvest crops with her friends, when Saiyed Ali came to her, pushed her to the ground and slit her throat even as the friends of victims screamed for help. Saiyed Ali attempted to escape but the villagers chased him down and handed him over to the police custody after thrashing him.
Victim’s grandmother and her friends, who were with Ritika at the field, gave a deposition to the police. Superintendent of Police (SP) Devendranath stated Saiyed was in one-sided love with Ritika, who knew Ali but she wasn’t in contact with him since he returned to his native place from Delhi on November 12. The accused took it as rejection and decided to take the extreme step. Police had beefed up deployment in the area to prevent any communal flare-up.
