11th Convocation at NIT Raipur held in virtual mode

The 11th Convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur was organised on Tuesday. For the first time, the convocation was organised in virtual mode, tackling the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic. Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD students received their degrees and medals were also distributed to respective meritorious students. A total of 1040 students including 804 graduates, 194 Post Graduates and 42 PhDs will be conferred with degrees wherein 47 medals including 24 Gold and 23 Silver Medals were distributed.
The event started with Dr A M Rawani, Director, NIT Raipur declaring the event open. Dr Rawani welcomed the gathering. He welcomed the chief guest, Professor Prem Vrat, Chairman of Board of Governors at IIT Dhanbad.
He said that the college has grown to the 67th rank in the NIRF Ranking and is the only institute of engineering in Chhattisgarh to feature amongst Top-100 Institutes in the NIRF ranking 2020.
He also shared that NIT Raipur for the first time acted as the Coordinating Institute for the NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) 2020 which was successfully conducted nationwide following all the Government’s directives and protocols for COVID-19. In these trying times, the institute fought with innovation, developing Non-touch Liquid Soap Dispenser, etc. while also working on 15 research projects like 3D printed Nasal Swab, Recycling Face Masks, Disinfecting PPE materials etc. to track, control and prevent COVID-19, he said.
As a consequence of the efforts towards Career Development of the students, NIT Raipur has secured a rank in Band ‘A’ (ranks between 11-25) among the Institutes of National Importance, Central Universities and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2020 by the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. Continuing the legacy, many students received seed grants this year as well. The illustrious placement record was also discussed.
Then the chief guest, Prem Vrat congratulated all the students for joining the scroll of successful engineers and scientists nurtured by this illustrious institution. He greeted their parents and gave tribute to their sacrifices and shed light on the importance of employability while being a good human first, and a teacher’s vital role in the same. He wanted the graduates to do some soul searching, because engineering as a profession has been losing its shine.
With ever-changing technology he also encouraged students to remain up to date with lifelong learning in this dynamic world.
Abhishek Dutta of Computer Science and Engineering was conferred with overall gold medal for batch 2020. Along with this, 46 other students (23 gold and 23 silver) were awarded with medals for their performance in their respective branches.
The acting Chairman and the Board of Governors signed the scrolls of degrees, and the Chairman Senate, Dr A M Rawani, Director, NIT Raipur administered the oath to the degree recipients.
