Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surged to an unprecedented level at 48 seats while TRS left licking its wound with 55 seats and AIMIM at 44 seats in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The grand-old party was left in the dust with merely 2 seats.
TRS had 99 seats, AIMIM 44 seats, BJP 4 seats while Congress 2 seats and TDP one in last GHMC election.
GHMC Election had all the flair and grandeur which are generally seen in a state or Lok Sabha elections. BJP was surfing on the high waves of victory in Dubbaka bye-election and the waves didn’t die down in the GHMC election as well.
With a star-studded election campaign featuring Home Minister Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Devendra Fadnavis, Smriti Irani and Tejasvi Surya, BJP didn’t leave anything to the fate. All three parties spared no effort in campaigning.
When the results came in, TRS led by K Chandrashekhar Rao came to a grinding halt short of a majority. TRS is short of at least 20 seats to stake claim on the Mayor’s post. TDP secured only one seat.
In Charminar Zone with 36 wards, TRS had 0 seats, BJP 7 and AIMIM 29 and Congress 0, Khairatabad Zone with 27 seats-TRS 5, BJP-9, AIMIM 13, Congress 0, Kukatpally Zone with 22 seats- TRS 20 seats, BJP 2 seats, AIMIM 0 and Congress 0 seats, LB Nagar Zone with 23 seats- TRS got 6 seats, BJP 15 seats, AIMIM 0 seats and Congress 2, Secunderabad Zone with 27 seats- TRS got 11 seats, BJP 14, AIMIM 1, Congress 0, Serilingampally Zone with 15 seats-TRS 13 seats, BJP 1 seat, AIMIM 1 seat and Congress 0.
