Raipur Police on Sunday seized huge quantities of English liquor reportedly smuggled here from Haryana.
“Based on specific inputs, Cyber Cell intercepted a container (HR 67 A 1455) resulting in seizure of around 58 boxes of illegal liquor. The market value of the seized liquor would be around Rs 10 lakh,” said police officials.
After a short chare, the accused driver fled the spot by abandoning the liquor-laden vehicle at Vyas Talab area under Khamtarai police station limits, informed police sources, elaborating that during search, police recovered the illegal liquor consignment.
Police officials further informed that in preliminary investigation, the accused driver has been identified as Sonu Jat, a native of Haryana. Investigation revealed that the accused had rented one house each in Kabir Nagar and Khamtarai area and the houses were used for illegal storage of liquor. The accused was delivering the liquor to people based on the demand.
Police have launched a hunt to nab the absconding accused, said the officer and further informed that the container seized by the police was owned by one Bhupendra, a native of Haryana.
