A Nonagenarian Margaret Keenan was the first to be administered with Covid-19 vaccine as the United Kingdom authorities rolled out 800,000 the first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines on Tuesday. Margaret Keenan was administered first shot of vaccine at the University Hospital Coventry.
The first phase of the vaccination programme has been dubbed as the “V-Day.” Margaret said, “It was the best early birthday gift she could wish for.” She was elated for she could now spending time with her family and friends in the festive season without worrying too much.
The Authorities have chosen to inoculate Octogenarians having hospitalized or have appointments at the outpatient department of hospitals along with medical staffers to be vaccinated in the first phase. Others will need to wait until 2021 when there will be sufficient vaccine vials available to expand the vaccination programme across the nation.
The UK is the first western nation to have commenced the inoculation for Covid-19 after the authorities cleared the vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer and BioNTech. The Pfizer-BioNTech have also applied for emergency usage of their vaccines with the Drug Controller General of India.
