Madhya Pradesh honoured with Best State Promoting Sports Award
Government committed to encourage sports – Sports Minister Scindia

Bhopal, Dec 9

Sports personalities were presented with the India Sports Awards -2020 by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for their outstanding contribution in the field of sports. Madhya Pradesh has been awarded the “Best State Promoting Sports Award” for the remarkable development being made in the state in the field of sports and the international sports facilities being made available to players.

The award was presented to the state’s Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia, at an online Virtual Award ceremony organized by FICCI.

Expressing happiness over the award of “Best State Promoting Sports Award” being bagged by Madhya Pradesh, the Sports Minister said that the Madhya Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan is committed to promote sports. She thanked FICCI for the award.

Principal Secretary Sports Pankaj Rag, Director Sports and Youth Welfare Pawan Kumar Jain, Joint Director Dr. Vinod Pradhan and BS Yadav and other sports officers were also present at the virtual award ceremony.

Madhya Pradesh making records in sports

Director Sports and Youth Welfare Pawan Kumar Jain said that Madhya Pradesh has been awarded “Best State Promoting Sports Award” by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Madhya Pradesh is making records in the field of sports as a result of the special interest of Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia and her persistent efforts. High level training and international sports facilities are being made available to the players of the state. The result of this is that the players of the state are making the country and the state proud at the international level. Players of Madhya Pradesh gave a fabulous performance om the Asian games and bagged five medals for the country. Six players from the Women’s Hockey Academy represented the Indian hockey team at the Rio Olympics. In the medals table of the last national games, Madhya Pradesh has reached the 6th position from 8th position and has set a record in national sports.

State also awarded earlier

Madhya Pradesh has bagged several awards in the past for outstanding work being done in the field of sports by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare. The National Sailing School Bhopal has been awarded the Admiral Kohli Award in the years 2012, 2015 and 2018 by Yachting Association of India for promoting sailing games in Madhya Pradesh. In 2017, the National Sailing School was awarded the Best Club of the Year award. Sailing player Harshita Tomar has received Yachts Person of the Year award in 2015, 2017 and 2018, Most Promising Player of the Year to Ram Milan Yadav in 2017 and Govind Bairagi in 2018, and for Best Woman Sailor to Uma Chouhan.

Similarly, in the year 2014-15, Women’s Hockey Academy Gwalior was awarded the President’s Award by Hockey India and Hockey Olympian Preeti Dubey was awarded the Best Upcoming Player Award. Men’s Hockey Academy Player Vivek Sagar was awarded the Rising Star Award by the International Hockey Federation in the year 2019.
