In a major breakthrough against poaching allegedly taking place in Barnavapara sanctuary, Mahasamund Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three suspected poachers and recovered one skin each of leopard and deer.
“Following a tip-off about poaching of leopard wild boar and deer in Barnavapara Sanctuary, the sleuths of Cyber Cell and local police have been directed to close watch on suspected movement. Based on precise inputs about three persons were looking out for customers for selling the skin of leopard and deer, the joint team of cyber cell and Sankra police swung into action and nabbed the trio,” said Mahasamund Superintendent of Police (SP) Prafull Kumar Thakur.
SP Thakur further informed that the arrested poachers were identified as Sheikh Shahbudin (27), Baliram Briha (52) and Johan Bariha (50), all hailing from Baloda Bazaar. From the possession of arrested poachers, police have recovered one skin each of leopard and deer, arrows, two mobile handsets and Rs 3790 cash, totalling worth Rs 30.19 lakh.
