Man sets wife on fire

Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Dec 16
A man in Raipur was arrested for allegedly setting his wife on fire after a minor dispute erupted between them.
“The accused identified as Ramraj Gupta alias Raja, a resident of Kailashpuri under Kotwali police station, allegedly set his wife Kunti Gupta (30) on fire by pouring kerosene on her body. The crime took place on Dec 14,” said police sources.
Police sources further informed that on December 14 evening, an altercation broke between the couple after which Ramraj under inebriated condition set Kunti on fire by using kerosene. In the incident, the victim woman had suffered serious burn injuries and was rushed to DKS Super Specialty Hospital, Raipur where she was under observation of doctors.
Based on the statement of Kunti, Kotwali police registered an offence against Ramraj under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), said police sources, elaborating that the accused was arrested on December 15 and produced before a local court from where he was sent to judicial custody
