Red Cross Society is the best platform for selfless human service. At the time of the Covid-19, the dedication of the Red Cross Society volunteers in risky situations turned out to be worthwhile, stated Governor Anusuiya Uikey in her address during the Rajyapal Samman Samaroh at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan on Thursday. The Governor gave first prize to Bastar district for outstanding work under Covid-19, second prize to Dhamtari and Rajnandgaon districts, and third prize to Balod and Surajpur districts.
The Governor said that the Red Cross Society is doing really well at the district level. Now, there is a need to expand their services to the development block level. She urged the MPs and MLAs to cooperate by contributing from their fund when required. For this the District Collector and other officials should also take initiative, she added.
She mentioned the service being done in the Sothi Leprosy Ashram of the Indian Leprosy Prevention Association in Janjgir-Champa district and described it as inspiring.
The Governor said that the number of active volunteers should be increased in the state
Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, Chhattisgarh, Sonmoni Borah said that after getting the responsibility of the chairman of Red Cross Society, an attempt was made to accomplish maximum work in a short span of time and volunteers worked on all fronts to achieve the target. He said that as per the data, around 1200 volunteers made active contribution in coordination with the district administrations. Borah said that the unit will be formed at the block level soon and efforts will be made to start generic drug stores at this level also.
On the occasion the Governor flagged off relief vehicles for various districts such as Dhamtari, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Kabirdham, Raigarh and Balod districts.
The award of best officer for outstanding work under Covid-19 went to Alexander M Cherian, OIC and Vice President, Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch Bastar, Pradeep Kumar Sahu, District Organiser, IRCS, Dhamtari, R L Thakur, District Education Officer Balod, Pawan Kumar Sen, District Organiser, IRCSI, Kanker, Dr RS Singh, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Surajpur.
At the state level, the award for the best volunteers award was given to Rajneesh Kumar Garg, Surajpur, Om Prakash Sen, Kanker, Dr Manoj Rao, Kanker, Ajay Kumar Raja, Mahasamund, Pradeep Sharma, Rajnandgaon.
