Three municipal corporations, including Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Risali Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Chirmiri Municipal Corporation (CMC), are going to poll sometimes in the month of January/February, 2021.
While the State Election Commission is prepared to hold elections to these civic bodies, a stay on the delimitation of Bhilai Municipal Corporation and Risali Municipal Corporation can be a major hurdle for the Election Commission as far as holding elections in time is concerned. It is worthwhile to mention, Chhattisgarh High Court has ordered a stay on the delimitation of the Bhilai and Risali municipal corporation.
Sources said that the state government is leaving no stone unturned to vacate the stay and hold the elections as per schedule. Accordingly, the State Election Commission has started preparations for the elections.
In the meanwhile, State Election Commission sources said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is preparing an electoral database which will be completed by January 15, 2021. “We are waiting for the database to be completed so that we can collect it from the ECI and give momentum to our preparations for the municipal corporation election. We are well prepared to conduct elections,” said sources in the State Election Commission.
State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh said that elections are due in these municipal bodies in January and February months of 2021. Preparations on the part of the Commission have been completed. The Commission is waiting for the database of ECI which will be available on January 15, 2021, he said.
