Opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), staged a walkout over the issue of electricity connection to farmers, immediately after the Question Hour of the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Monday.
Khujji MLA Chhannu Chandu Sahu wanted to know, during the Question Hour of the House, about number applications received from the farmers from 2018 to November 30, 2020 for permanent/temporary power pump connections, number of connections given, number of connection pending and reason behind pending cases and time limit for the disposal of pending cases.
In a supplementary question, BJP MLAs Brijmohan Agrawal and Ajay Chandrakar tried to corner the Chief Minister demanding declaration of time limit in the House as far as connection to farmers is concerned. Chandrakar said that 94,995 applications of farmers for connection are pending and it will cost about Rs 900 crore. Whether the Chief Minister will announce in the House to dispose of all the pending applications and give connections. Chandrakar said that the Chief Minister has turned Brand Ambassador of farmers. In reply, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said, ‘Deshi Ghee Ko Prachar Ki Jaruran Nahin Hoti’ (there no need of publicity for pure Deshi Ghee). I am born as a farmer and will die as farmer. No need to be Brand Ambassador.” The Chief Minister said 94,950 applications are pending. It is a continuous process, said the Chief Minister. The Opposition members kept on demanding an announcement from the Chief Minister over the power pump connection. In the meantime, Question Hour was over and Opposition staged walkout from the House amidst shouting slogans.
