Mathematicians and science lovers pay tribute to the most gifted and extraordinary mathematical genius of all times Srinivasa Ramanujan on his 133rd birth anniversary in India on December 23, the 133rd birth anniversary of Ramanujan.

India has celebrated the rich legacy of this globally renowned mathematical genius, “the man who knew infinity” through the Ramanujan Yatra on the death centenary from 22 April to 22 December 2020. Vigyan Prasar under the Department of Science & Technology, Goverment of India initiated Ramanujan Yatra 2020 to focus on mathematical magic, Ramanujan’s research and other scientific studies on mathematics.

National Mathematics Week is celebrated every year during 15-22 December. The concluding ceremony of Ramanujan Yatra 2020 was organised on the occasion of 133rd birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan and National Mathematics Day on December 22.

A special lecture webinar was held on the topic “Gems of Ramanujan and their Lasting Impacts on Mathematics” by Padma Bhushan Prof Manjul Bhargava, Professor of Mathematics from Princeton University, USA.

In this webinar Director Vigyan Prasar Dr Nakul Parashar explained about journey of Ramanujan Yatra and its significance. Scientist Vigyan Prasar Dr T V Venkateswaran presented keynote address on entire programme.

Professor at Institute of Mathematical Sciences Chennai Dr R Ramanujam introduced guest speaker Professor Manjul Bhargava and his prestigious achievements in Mathematics.

Life Member of The Indian Science Congress Association under Department of Science & Technology, Goverment of India as well as Educationist of Aastha Vidya Mandir Dantewada Amujuri Biswanath also took part in this webinar and discussed about mathematical aspects through virtual platforms.

Ramanujan’s exemplary contributions are in the fields of elliptic functions, continued fractions, infinite series, and analytical theory of numbers. It is a matter of great inspiration and pride for us that mathematicians across the world continue to study his various unpublished papers. This program was conducted by co-organisers International Centre for Theoretical Sciences TIFR Bengaluru, Pi Mathematics Association Chennai, Ramanujan Mathematical Society, GITAM University Visakhapatnam, Punjab Engineering College & Punjab University Chandigarh, Kerala School of Mathematics Kozhikode. Many mathematicians, scientists, research scholars, professors, teachers and eminent speakers from various universities, institutions and organisations across the country as well as global have presented their thoughts, papers and research works during Ramanujan Yatra.
