Sending a strong message to bureaucrats indulging in corruption and promoting nepotism in government projects, Chhattisgarh Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said in Chhattisgarh Assembly that he will not entertain or tolerate such practices. Officials are bound to cooperate with the elected public representatives by providing them timely information about the developmental projects.
The Agriculture Minister was replying to a question asked by MLA Pramod Kumar Sharma during Question Hour of the House on Thursday. Taking the name of the Sub-Divisional Officer of Water Resources Department, V K Sirmour, MLA Sharma said that he has been benefitting his relatives by awarding them construction/maintenance contracts of canals in Sohela of Baloda Bazaar-Bhatapara district. Earlier, the MLA wanted to know about the fund sanctioned for the maintenance and repair of canals in Baloda Bazaar-Bhatapara district between financial year 2017-18 and November 30, 2020 and whether the department displayed the accomplished work on signboard.
The MLA also raised the issue of officials promoting their relatives in awarding government projects and alleged release of funds to them without even accomplishing the work.
On demand for an inquiry and action against such officials, Agriculture Minister made it clear that he would first sack the official and then start inquiry. The Minister also assured the MLA that the inquiry will be held in his presence. Asking a supplementary question, BSP MLA Keshav Chandra said that same situation prevails in other parts of the state. On it, the Agriculture Minister said that he will ask his department officials to provide elected public representatives with whatever information they require.
