Doctor found hanging

RAIPUR, Dec 30

A 32-year-old doctor was found hanging in his rented room located in the city’s Devendra Nagar locality under Ganj police station limits.

A doctor identified as Hemant Dewangan (32) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his rented house located at Devendra Nagar sector-3, said Ganj Station House Officer (SHO) Vijay Kumar Yadav, elaborating that the incident came to light on Tuesday late night.

Police recovered the body of Dewangan, who had completed his MBBS degree and doing PG from Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College Raipur, from his room and sent it for autopsy, said SHO Yadav, elaborating that no suicide note was recovered from the room.

“Prima-facie investigation suggests that the doctor might have committed suicide around 2-3 days back as the body had started to decompose emanating stink. Although the incident took place 2-3 days back, it came to light only last night when Hemant’s friend visited his room as he was not going to the hospital since December 27 and also not responding to the phone call. Finding the room locked from inside and a foul smell emanating from the room, Hemant’s friend alerted police,” said Yadav.

Hemant was found hanging in his room when the room was opened by the police team, Yadav added.

Yadav further informed that the reason, which forced the young doctor to take such an extreme step, was yet to be ascertained. Police have registered death and started a probe in this connection.
