Covishield Vaccine gets approval of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, SII to manufacture the Covishield in India


New Year arrived with a much-awaited gift as the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization on Friday gave nod to emergency use of Covishield vaccine jointly developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

All the states and union territories will be conducting a dry run for vaccines on Saturday, January 2, 2021. India is the third nation to grant approval to Covishield following the United Kingdom and Argentina. Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, will be manufacturing the Covishield vaccine in India. The Serum Institute of India (SII) already has a stock of over 5 crores ampoules of vaccines and their nationwide distribution from cold storages from Saturday, January 2, 2021.

The vaccine will be priced Rs 440 for government stores and from Rs 700 to Rs 800 per ampoules in the open market. The vaccines developed by BioNTech and Pfizer may also get approval soon.
