Hero of Siachen, Rtd Colonel Narendra “Bull” Kumar,  PVSM, KC, AVSM, the Indian Army Officer who was instrumental in capturing of Siachen glacier under Operation Meghdoot which was a preemptive action to capture Siachen Glacier, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020.

Colonel Narendra Kumar or Bull, as fondly called by his Colleague & friends, was born in Rawalpindi, which is now in Pakistan, in 1933. The colonel led an Indian Army Expedition to Siachen glacier in 1984, the highest battlefield in the world, after the Indian Army received intelligence report about Pakistan’s plan to deploy troops there. Colonel Kumar led the way to capture the Saltoro Range which runs along the Glacier and whoever controls the Saltoro controls the Siachen glacier.

Colonel Kumar was also a mountaineering legend as just six years back, he had unfurled Indian National Flag atop world’s third-highest peak “Mount Kanchenjunga” from its northeast side. and he was also part of India’s successful expedition to the Mount Everest in 1965. His last rituals were performed at Brar Square.
