Indore Police on Saturday arrested five Standup comedians on the charges of hurting Hindu sentiments by insulting Hindu gods and goddesses. The comedians were about performing at a Cafe, when a Hindu organization Hindu Rakshak Sangathan interrupted the programme and took the comedians to police.
According to reports, the comedians identified as Munawar Faruqi, Edvin Anthony, Prakhar Vyas, Priyam Vyas and Nalin Yadav were booked under Section 295-A of Indian Penal Code for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious sentiments, Section 298 for deliberately intending to hurt the religious sentiments, Section 269 for negligence act likely to spread infectious diseases dangerous to life, Section 188 for disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant and section 34 of Indian Penal Code.
Members of Hindu Rakshak Sangathan entered the show and disrupted it on hearing derogatory jokes and mockery of Hinduism at a New Year function, which was allegedly organized in violation of the pandemic rules and without due permission from competent authorities. Hindu activists also alleged that the comedians downplayed deaths of Karsevaks in Godhra massacre. They manhandled the comedians foul mouthing Hindu gods and handed them over to the Tukoganj Police.
