UTTAR PRADESH: As many as 23 people died and dozens injured when the roof of a crematorium collapsed in Muradnagar on Sunday. Over a dozen injured people in the incidents were taken to the hospital by rescue workers.
According to the reports, around 25 people had taken shelter from the rain when the roof of crematorium caved in. The people had come to attend the funeral ceremony of one Ram Dhan. Hence, a lot of them were his relatives.
A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was rushed to the Ukhlarsi village of Muradnagar. Agitated people demanded arrest of the contractor who had built the shelter at the crematorium. Some griped about the lack of facility at the hospital.
The authority had commenced a probe in the incident. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took stock of the situation and gave necessary directions to the officials to conduct relief operations and submit the investigation report.
President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnanth Singh, Vice President Venkaih Naidu and others have expressed profound grief and extended condolences to the families of deceased persons.
