Shipra Upadhyay, a student of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, has been selected as Scientific Officer at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Kalpakkam Unit. Shipra, who basically belongs to Balia district of Uttar Pradesh, completed her Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from NIT Raipur in 2020.
Sharing her journey with The Hitavada over phone, Shipra said that she will work as a Trainee Scientific Officer for a period of one year. Speaking about her preparations and selection, Shipra said that there are two ways – Online Examination and GATE Examination, to get selected.
“I had appeared for online examination followed by an interview. On the basis of my performance in both I have been selected,” Shipra told this newspaper.
Interview is a lengthy affair as it lasted one hour ten minutes, said Shipra, adding she had to visit Mumbai for the interview. One should have in-depth knowledge about the subject which, he/she appearing for. “Unless you have detailed knowledge about your subject, it is difficult to clear the interview. One cannot succeed through superficial knowledge,” she said. Standard textbook and detailed knowledge on the subject is sufficient to get success in the examination, she said. Speaking about the nature of the job, Shipra said that research will be the key part of her job.
