MUMBAI An actress Preity Talreja alleged physical violence, forced conversion and psychological torture by husband after a fake Nikah. She has also accused Maharashtra Police of not registering a case against her husband Abhijeet Petkar despite producing photographic and video evidence.
Preity took to the social media to narrate her ordeal, saying she lodged a complaint with the Khadakpada Police Station, but police have yet to file an FIR even after tagging Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. In her complaint, Talreja said her husband and his friends organized Nikah in a mosque. He cheated on her in the disguise of love. It is also the reason she couldn’t obtain a registration certificate of her marriage. She even alleged that her husband is a Muslim, but he uses the name Abhijeet Petkar on his legal documents. There is no proof that he converted to Hinduism.
In her Twitter post, she wrote: “In India, if a woman commits suicide, the system gets in a hurry to punish even innocents but when she’s alive and fighting for justice she’s only harassed.” She further alleged that her husband does not like her first daughter visiting her house and staying with her.”
