Diamonds stolen from merchant house: Diamonds to the tune of around Rs 10 lakh were stolen from the house of a precious stones’ merchant in Raipur.
According to police sources, around 1032.40 carats diamonds to the tune of around Rs 10 lakh were stolen from the house of merchant Deepak Kumar Soni (45), a resident of Bhatagaon area under Purani Basti police station limits. In this connection, police have booked three persons identified as Bhupat Bhai Jikadar, Balwant, both native of Gujarat, and Deepak’s cousin Sanjeev Soni of Mumbai, and launched a search for the trio.
“Investigation revealed that on January 7, Bhupat Bhai Jikadar and Balwant reached Deepak’s house to purchase diamonds. While Deepak was busy in showcasing the precious stones to the duo, Sanjeev reached the victim’s house and started an argument over alleged transaction of money between them. Taking advantage of the dispute, Bhupat Bhai Jikadar and Balwant managed to flee from the house along with 1032.40 carats diamond and suspiciously, Sanjeev also left the house,” said police sources.
“In connection with the theft, a police team has been constituted to probe the matter and soon they will be dispatched to separate locations to ensure the arrest of the accused trio,” said police sources.
On the complaint of Deepak, police have registered an offence against the trio under Section 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started investigation, added police sources.
