Railway Police arrested 10 illegal Rohingya immigrants including three men, two women and five children at New Jailpaiguri Station, West Bengal recently.
According to the reports, the group had escaped Kutupalang Rohingya immigrant camp in Cox Bazaar of Bangladesh. Northern Frontier Railway CPRO Shubhanan Chandra said that train Superintendent was on a routine duty of checking passengers’ tickets in Agartala-New Delhi Rajdhani Special Train after boarding the train at Guwahati Station, when he spotted some suspicious passengers lodged in B7 Coach. SP Chandra requested the Railway Police to investigate the people.
The Railway Police took the suspicious people off the train as the train arrived at New Jalpaiguri Station at around 1:40 am and subjected them to interrogation, during which the group told the police that they were Rohingyas. They were travelling from Komilla, Bangladesh and illegally entered India via Sonamura, Tripura. They took the train from Agartala Station on January 11. An agent helped them board the train. Later, the Government Railway Police New Jalpaiguri took them under custody and initiated further legal proceedings.
