New and Renewable Energy Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Dang has said that Madhya Pradesh is leading in the country by installing maximum number of solar pumps under the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Abhiyan launched for migrant labourers who returned to their states during Covid.
Out of the total number of solar pumps installed in the country, Madhya Pradesh has maximum number of solar pumps installed by the migrant labourers. Shri Dang informed that 3490 solar pumps were to be set up in 24 districts to assist migrant labourers. Against this, 92.4 percent of the target has been met by installing 3224 pumps. The labourers got 15 thousand mandays employment in solar pump installation.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Abhiyan, 116 districts of six states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan and Jharkhand were selected to provide employment to the migrant labourers who returned to the states. This includes 24 districts of Madhya Pradesh including Balaghat, Jhabua, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Rewa, Satna, Sagar, Panna, Bhind, Alirajpur, Betul, Khandwa, Shahdol, Dhar, Dindori, Katni, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Khargone, Shivpuri, Barwani, Sidhi and Singrauli. As many as 25 works including installation of solar pumps, community toilets, anganwadi, well construction, rural mandis, animal sheds, panchayat buildings, tree plantations etc. were selected under the campaign to improve the lives of the villagers.
Dang informed that lakhs of labourers from Madhya Pradesh who were stranded in other states during lockdown were brought to the state by special buses and trains at government expense under Chief Minister’s Migrant Labourers Assistance Scheme. Even the workers of other states, who managed to reach the border of Madhya Pradesh on foot or by other means, were also taken to the border states by the state government. Free food grains, food packets were distributed to the migrant labourers, and employment was provided.
