Some unknown assailants attacked a Hindu temple’s priest named Sant Gyan Muni along with a girl who came to rescue the priest at Phillaur on January 31, 2021. Both priest and the girl were shot by two attackers early morning at Bihar Singh Pura village of Phillaur, Punjab.
According to the report, girl identified as Simran was shot after she tried to rescue the priest. Both of them were admitted to the DMC Hospital in critical condition. As the attackers opened fire, some devotees performing Puja at temples panicked and caused stampede. Attackers shot the priest thrice whereas Simran was shot at twice. Both were undergoing treatment in intensive care wards of the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar. Police was yet to ascertain the reason behind the attack.
An FIR has been registered against the two unidentified assailants under Sections 307 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and Sections 25, 27 and 54 of the Arms Act.
