Road networks getting stronger in naxal-hit Bastar

A network of roads is being laid across the Naxal-hit region of Bastar. As many as 30 new roads are being developed in Naxal-infested Bastar with joint efforts of Central government and state government under Road Requirement Plan (RRP).

Out of 2000-kilometer road network in Bastar, 1500-kilometers road have already been constructed. Some 400-kilometers road were constructed in the year 2020 while remaining 500-kilometer roads are proposed to be constructed in 2021. The road construction Work is underway in seven districts across the Bastar division.

It is worth mentioning here that the State highway is already under-construction in Jagargunda, Kistaram, Gollapalli, Barsur and Palli in Abujhmad. Budget has been disbursed for road connecting Chhindnar to Barsur, Padamkot to Kutul and Orcha to Ader in Narayanpur, Chaargaon to Silcode besides Umakasa to Durgukondal.

Bastar police have taken up the task to construct roads in current year. According to Bastar police, construction of road has already been started from Dornapal to Jagargunda, the zone is termed as lifeline of Naxals.  Around 30-kilometers of road has already been constructed and 25-kilometer road upto Jagargunda is to be constructed.

Bastar Range Inspector General of police Sundarraj P said that 500-kilometer stretch road were proposed to be constructed in 2021 and the work has been expedited in all districts. “Bastar police are working on the concept of Vikas, Vishwas and Suraksha for executing development projects in Naxal-infested areas,” he said. Police is all set for road connectivity in core areas including over half a dozen bridges would also be constructed, said the IG.

The roads constructed in previous years include Awapalli to Ilmidi road, Awapalli to Usoor road and Kutru to Bedre road in Bijapur in 2020; Dantewada to Katekalyan road and Barsur to Kondapara via Geedam, Dantewada and Aranpur in 2019 in Dantewada; Injaram to Bhejji road and Sukma to Konta road in Sukma in 2018 and 2019.
