14 bodies recovered, 15 people rescued after giant flash-flood in Uttarakhand, around 170 still missing, local Administration says.

As many as 14 bodies have been recovered including three from Tapovan and seven from the route to Karnprayag in the aftermath of giant flash-flood caused by a sudden glacier burst at Joshimath area of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand on Sunday morning.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) had rescued 12 people who were stuck in a small tunnel in Tapovan whereas a total of 15 people were rescued on Sunday. Rescue workers are now trying to open the bigger tunnel, which is clogged by tons of debris. Close to 30 people reportedly are trapped in the 2nd tunnel even as around 300 ITBP personnel pressed into rescue and relief works.

The flash-flood immensely damaged Raini Power Project. Of the 121 people working at the second project, 32 were still reported have been missing. Chief Minister Narendra Modi was in constant touch with Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh to take updates on the situation.
