Three women were duped of Rs 4 lakh by unknown persons who committed the crime on the pretext of polishing the jewellery of the victim women in the Ward No. 8 under Kotwali police station limits of Bemetara.
The crime came to fore when victim Chandrika Tiwari lodged a complaint with the police. The complainant stated that she along with Bharati Joshi and Amar Joshi were sitting outside her house in the afternoon when two persons, on a motorcycle, approached them and posed as jewellery and utensil polishers.
The miscreants managed to convince the trio after which Chandrika Tiwari first gave them her silver anklet and both returned it to her right after polishing it to win the trust. After which all the three victims gave their worn gold ornaments for polishing.
The duo asked the women for getting Turmeric power, water and a pan. When the women brought all the things, the duo very smartly kept the gold with them but posed as they have put the gold inside the pan. Then they asked the women to boil this water and leave it for 15-20 minutes. The duo even gave strict instructions to the women for taking out the gold within 15 minutes and left. After 20 minutes, the women were taken aback when they found no gold in the pan.
Chandrika Tiwari rushed to the police station and narrated entire episode. Police registered case against unknown persons under Section 420 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are searching for them.
