A 5-month-old baby girl got a new hope of life as Prime Minister Narendra Modi waived off custom duty of Rs 6 crores and other charges for importing life-saving medicines worth Rs 10 crores. Toddler Teera Kamat has been battling a debilitating disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy and is in dire need of gene replacement therapy.

Union Government exempted the taxes and custom duty after a request by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis made to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Girl’s parents couldn’t afford the taxes amounting to several crores.

Fadanvis expressed sincere gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for the humanitarian and extremely sensitive approach towards exempting all the taxes for importing of life-drugs for little Teera Kamat. Fadanvis wished for speedy recovery of little baby girl.
