As many as 54 fencers from across the state had participated in a selection trial held on Saturday for picking up players for the 28th Junior National Fencing 2020-21 to be held in Uttarakhand from March 15 to 17. The selection trial was conducted at Ispat Club in Bhilai. The 54 players include 30 boys and 24 girls.
NIS Coach Anurag Choudhary and Pravin Kumar, Anup Chaoudhary, Mohnish Verma and Johnson Solomon conducted the trial held in Foil, Sabre and Epee events. Raipur District Fencing Association Akhilesh Dubey, Bilaspur association secretary Santosh Sahu, and president Shiv Vastrakar, State Fencing Association treasurer Ram Pratap Gupta and vice president Nikhil Jambhulkar were present on the occasion. A 25-day coaching camp will be held for the players being selected for the national championship.
A trial for senior players will be held on Sunday. Players getting selected in the trial will be sent to participate in the 31st Senior Women and Men Fencing Championship to be held in Uttarakhand from March 19 to 21.
