Chhattisgarh lost to Gujarat despite solid opening start

Chhattisgarh lost their first One Day match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy played against Gujarat on Saturday. The hosts registered a thrilling victory for the loss of seven wickets while chasing 231 runs scored by the visitors.

Winning the toss at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat, Chhattisgarh senior team opted to bat first. Openers Shashank Chandrakar and Ashutosh Singh provided a solid start as they scored 92 off 107 and 47 off 73 before being sent back to the pavilion. Coming at number three, Amandeep Khare contributed 38 in 49 balls. However, the remaining batsmen failed to deliver. As a result, Chhattisgarh could post 231 runs, giving a target of 232. A Nagvaswal took six wickets for Gujarat while Chintan Gaza took two.

Gujarat had a tough time while chasing down the target as they lost seven wickets in their efforts. Even as none of their batsmen reach 40 mark, they managed to take the team home. Dhruw Rawal and B H Mere scored 38 each while Het scored 35 and Chirag J Gandhi contributed 32. For Chhattisgarh, Vir Pratap Singh took two wickets while Sumit Ruikar, Ajay Mandal, Shashank Singh and Sourabh Majumdar tool one wicket each.
