A Fast Track Special Court in Raipur has sentenced a man to 20 years Rigorous Imprisonment for sexually exploiting a 7-year-old girl and also imposed Rs 50000 fine on him.

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (I Fast Track Special Court) Raipur Rajeev Kumar has convicted Deepak Verma (30), a resident of Ayodhya Nagar under Tikrapara police station limits, for raping a minor girl and sentenced him 20 years RI, informed Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Morisha Naidu.
Besides, the court has imposed Rs 50000 fine on the convict, said SPP Naidu, elaborating that in case of default in paying the fine, the convict has to undergo additional one year RI.
It may be recalled that on 25 June 2018, Verma exploited a 7-year-old girl sexually. The crime came to light when the minor victim narrated the entire incident to her mother following which a complaint was lodged with Tikrapara police station. On the complaint of the victim’s mother, police registered an offence against the accused under Section 377 (unnatural offence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevant Sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Based on findings, Section 376AB (punishment for rape on woman under twelve years of age) of IPC and relevant sections of POCSO Act were added.
