Even as Chhattisgarh lost to Baroda in a high scoring match of Vijay Hazare One-Day Tournament played at Surat on Friday, Chhattisgarh’s top order batsmen displayed high-level performance with bat. Chasing down a steep target of 333, Chhattisgarh fell short of 13 runs, losing their third match out of four they played in the tournament so far.
Baroda won the toss and opted to bat first. They put 332 for six in the stipulated 50 overs as K H Pandya scored unbeaten 133 off 100 while Vishnu Solanki scored 99 off 78 and A Seth remained unbeaten on 51 off 16. Medium pacers Sourabh Majumdar and Shashank Singh claimed two wickets each for Chhattisgarh while Veer Pratap Singh and Ajay Mandal took one each.
Chasing the target, Amandeep Khare scored 67 off 77, Ajay Mandal scored unbeaten 65 off 46, Ashutosh Singh scored 55 off 59, Shashank Singh contributed 32 off 44 and Rishabh Tiwari made 26 off 30. However, they could not avoid the defeat. Chhattisgarh lots their nine wickets while chasing the target. B A Pathan took three wickets for Baroda while A Seth took two. Similarly, L I Meriwal, K R Kakde, K H Pandya and N A Rathwa took one wicket each.
