State-level Shooting Championship inaugurated

Sports Minister Umesh Patel targets the aim as he inaugurates Shooting Championship at Mana Camp on Saturday.

State Higher, Technical Education, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Umesh Patel inaugurated the 19th State Level Shooting Championship at Shooting Range of 4th Battalion, Chhattisgarh Armed Force, Mana Camp on Saturday.  The Minister on the occasion said that his government in Chhattisgarh has been encouraging sports and sportspersons. Sports infrastructure of international standard, developed in the recent times, are burning examples of how state government serious about promotion of sports in the state, said the Minister. The minister also extended his wishes to the shooters and assured them of developing better shooting facilities in state in future.

Like previous years, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Rifle Association in collaboration with Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) is organising the championship which will continue till March 6. The championship is being held since 2002.

Events that will take place are 50m, 10m and 25m Rifle and Pistol. The winners will be selected for the East Zone (Pre-National) Shooting Championship to be held at Asansol in West Bengal from March 11 to 14. The shooters of the state performing well and winning medals at pre-national will be selected for the National Championship. JSPL President Pradeep Tandon said that the JSPL is vying for the development of youths of Chhattisgarh through this championship. JSPL Plant Head Arvind Tagai, Rifle Association General Secretary Rakesh Gupta, Ravindra Sharma, Suryoday Dubey were present on the occasion.
