Ambitious ‘Garhbo Nava Chhattisgarh’ slogan of state government turning out to be much ado about nothing, alleged Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Komal Hupendi while briefing media persons at Raipur Press Club on Tuesday.  The reality is that the government is not even able to provide pure drinking water to people of nine villages, including Supebheda, in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh, he said.

During his stint as President of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC), Bhupesh Baghel, now Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, had a door-to-door visit in Supebheda demanding pure drinking water, Rs 5 lakh compensation to the deceased family and jobs to the victim family members. Bhupesh Baghel had promised fulfill all these requirements if his party forms government in the state, said Hupendi.

Meanwhile, AAP team visited Supebeda on February 27 to take stock of the situation. The villagers said that 130 people have died in Supebeda so far due to kidney and liver damage. Today, every family is suffering from diseases related to kidney and liver. Many people are still in critical condition, villagers told AAP leaders. The Congress government has left Supebeda residents in lurch, Hupendi alleged. The Congress government has not been able to even change the filter of the water plant installed during the BJP government in the year 2017. The demand of the villagers is only that the government should provide pure drinking water for drinking, he said.

AAP State Secretary Uttam Jaiswal said when he reached Supebheda, a programme of Dashagatra was going on in three houses.  There are 9 villages in Supebeda having 5000 population. At least one members of in each house is victim of kidney related disease in the absence of clean drinking water, Jaiswal said.

Trilochan Sonwani, a resident of Supebheda village, was also brought to the Press Conference and he said that 17 people of his family have fallen victim to this disease. Today, he himself has come to Raipur with a patient and is undergoing treatment in Dr B R Ambedkar Memorial Hospital. There is no one left except the patient in the family, he told media.

AAP office bearers said that the party will fight for the legitimate demand. AAP will bring water from Supebeda and offer Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel cabinet ministers on March 9 as mark of protest against government apathy towards people.
