Kerala Mahila Congress Chief Lathika Subhash tonsured her head after resigning from the post to protest against inadequate representation of women in the candidate list of Congress for Kerala Legislative Elections.
Lathika Subhash alleged that Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Mullappally Ramchandran overlooked the women while drafting the list of candidates for assembly election. She had demanded at least 20 per cent of the women candidates in assembly election, but Kerala Congress President Ramachandran only gave tickets to nine among 91 candidates announced.
Even Lathika had stake claim on Ettumanur constituency’s ticket, but she was denied. She had expressed her desire to contest from Ettumanur as it is her birthplace and it is where she has grown up, Lathika said.
As the election is getting closer, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has been jolted by senior leaders moving out starting with KPCC Secretary MS Viswanathan, Mahila Congress State Secretary Sujaya Venugopal, Indian National Trade Union Congress General Secretary PK Anil Kumar and KPCC member KK Viswanathan and now Lathika has also joined the list.
