A Hindu village was attacked by thousands of radical Islamic organization “Hefazat-e-Islam” after a young Hindu boy posted critical comments against the organization’s leader on social media. Around 70 to 80 homes were vandalized by the frenzied Muslim mob at the village in Shalla Upazila of Sunamganj, Bangladesh on Wednesday morning, March 17, 2021.

The attack was carried out after Hefazat-e-Islam’s Amir Allama Junaid Babunagari, Joint Secretary General Mawlana Mufty Mamunul Haque and several other central leaders held a meeting at Derai Upazilla on Monday.

Mawlana Mamunul Haque delivered an incendiary hate speech at the meeting. To oppose the hate speech of Mawlana, Hindu youth took to social media to criticize him. Mamanul had opposed the sculpture of Bangabandhu.

Hefazat leaders and members had already staged a protest on Tuesday night and the next morning they launched the attack on Hindu village even after police arresting the accused youth on Tuesday night itself.
