In another breakthrough in the fight against naxalism, a police team on Saturday claimed to have eliminated two cadres of the banned organization in insurgency-hit Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.
“Acting on an intelligence input about presence of cadres belonging from Katekalyan Area Committee at village Badegudra under Kuakonda police station limits, a police team was dispatched to the area for undertaking search. While undertaking search at village Badegudra and Chotegudra, insurgents opened indiscriminate firing on the police personnel following which a retaliatory action was launched by men-in-khaki,” said a senior police officer.
The officer further informed that unable to withstand the retaliatory firing, rebels escaped. During the search the police team recovered two bodies of slain naxals along with the recovery of a revolver, one country-made pistol and tiffin bomb-weighing around 10 kg and other articles. Later, the slain cadres were identified as Katekalyan LGS (Local Guerilla Squad) deputy commander Hidma Mandvi (26) and janmilitia commander Aayta Sodi (26). Hidma was carrying a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh while Aayta was carrying a Rs 1 lakh reward on his head.
The slain naxals involved in several incidents took place in the area, added the officer.
