Educational institutions likely to be closed down in view of spike in Covid cases


Chhattisgarh government likely to close down schools, colleges, anganbadi centres in view the spike in Covid-19 positive cases in the state in recent days. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel chaired a review meeting on present situation of COVID-19 infection in the state, wherein, the situation of spike in COVID-19 positive cases and COVID-19 vaccination were reviewed. For effective control on COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Secretary was asked to issue necessary guidelines at the earliest after consulting with departments concerned.

    Talking to media persons after the meeting, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said heavy surge in COVID-19 positive cases is being recorded in the state and Chhattisgarh is in sixth position in the country in terms of infection spread, which is a matter of grave concern. Today the Chief Minister reviewed the situation with his Cabinet colleagues and senior administrative officials. He said directives have been issued to the officials that the school, colleges, anganbadi centers which are opening, has to be closed down immediately. While taking decision to close down all schools, colleges and anganbadi centers with immediate effect, it was decided to carry all examinations online. However, this directive will not effect the off-line examinations to be held for Class–X and Class-XII.

    The Chief Minister while chairing the meeting asked the officials to ensure compliance of measures and guidelines for prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic strictly. He also asked to ensure strictness in ensuring people wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. The Chief Minister said the festival of colours – Holi is scheduled later this month along with for other social, cultural and religious functions including final rites, the Chief Secretary has been directed to prepare and issue extensive guidelines after holding discussions with senior officials from Home, Health, Urban Administration, School and Higher Education, Panchayat and Rural, GAD, etc departments and district Collectors. Also decision regarding imposing LOCKDOWN or Night Curfew, it will be decided during this meeting.

    The Chief Minister asked the officials to increase the daily frequency of testing and contact tracing. He also directed to make all necessary arrangements from treatment of COVID-19 patients including making necessary arrangements at COVID hospitals and isolation centers. He also asked to make necessary arrangements for beds with oxygen and ICUs. Apart from all these measures the Chief Minister directed the officials to expedite COVID-19 vaccination drive among health workers, frontline workers, senior citizens over 60 years and people with comorbidities under age-group of 45 to 59 years.

    While Health and Family Welfare Minister T S Singhdeo and Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat attended the meeting through video-conferencing, while Home Minister Tamradhawaj Sahu, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar, Commerce Minister Kawasi Lakhma, Urban Administration Minister Dr Shivkumar Daharia, Revenue Minister Jaisingh Agrawal, PHE Minister Guru Rudra Kumar, Higher Education Minister Umesh Patel, MLAs Shishupal Sori and Shakuntala Sahu, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain and other senior administrative officials were present in the meeting.
