Maoists released the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper Rakeshwar Singh Manhas after five days of captivity on Thursday. The CoBRA Commando was released in the presence of thousands of villagers, which the Maoists invited to watch as spectators like some charade.
CPI Maoists turned the release of CRPF into a big event by sending out invitation to villagers and media persons. Maoists handed over the CRPF trooper to Padma Shri Dharmpal Saini and Gondwana Community President Telam Boraiya.
Maoists put out a show, where they tied the hands of CRPF troopers and then untied him in front of media persons. Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, a commando of CoBRA 201th Battalion, was captured after an encounter during a search and destroy operation at Tekalgudem on April 3, 2021. Two days later, they released a photograph of the trooper and asked government to send interlocutors.
The trooper was released at around 4:30 pm and he returned Terram Police Station along with interlocutors. The trooper underwent medical examination, psychological test at Basaguda field hospital and debriefing.
