Firoze, Abuzar and Sahinur arrested by West Bengal Police

Three Muslim men have been arrested on the accusation of lynching a 50-year-old police officer from Bihar to death in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal. The accused Firoze Alam, Abuzar Alam and Sahinur Khan have been arrested by West Bengal Police on the charges of murdering the policeman.

Ashwini Kumar, station house officer at Kishanganj Police Station, was leading a raid regarding a bike theft case in the neighbouring area under Panjipoda Police Station of North Dinajpur. During the raid, Kumar was surrounded and thrashed by a mob. Badly injured Kumar was taken to Islampur Sadar Hospital, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

As the body of Kumar was brought to Kishanganj Police Station. However, Inspector’s family refused to accept his body, alleging a conspiracy. They doubted the role of other police personnel and questioned why the West Bengal Police wasn’t kept in the loop. After the intervention of senior officials, who promised SIT investigation in the case, relatives of Kumar performed the funeral procession at his native place Janki Nagar in Purnea.
