Raipur (Chhattisgarh), April 20

A team of District Reserve Group (DRG) on Tuesday eliminated a naxal cadre, carrying cash reward, in insurgency-hit Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

Based on tip-off about presence of armed naxals in forest of Nilawaya, a team of DRG launched an operation last night, informed Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallava.

The SP further informed that as the team reached forest of Nilawaya this morning, ultras opened indiscriminate firing on the security personnel following which a retaliatory action was launched by DRG personnel. Taking advantage of dense forest and hills, insurgents escaped from the spot.

“While undertaking search at the encounter site, security personnel recovered the body of a slain naxal, who was later identified as member of Malanger area committee Kosa alias Goncha, carrying cash reward of Rs 5 lakh. Besides, police have also seized a pistol, muzzle-loading gun, IED and others articles from the encounter site,” said SP Pallava.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the slain naxal was allegedly involved in several incidents took place in the Bastar region and over dozen of cases were registered against him, added the officer.
