Karuna Shukla dies of Corona

Raipur, April 27

Niece of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior Congress leader Karuna Shukla died of Novel Coronavirus late on Monday night.

After being tested positive, Shukla was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Raipur.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has paid tribute to Karuna Shukla on her death. In a twitter post, CM Baghel said “My aunt Karuna Shukla is no more. The ruthless Corona took her as well. Apart from politics, we had a very intimate family relationship and I always received her blessing. May almighty give her space in its holy place and strength to all of us to bear this loss.”

Notably, after being associated for 30 years with BJP, Shukla joined Congress party in 2014. In the last assembly election, Congress had fielded her against former Chief Minister Raman Singh but she faced the defeat. She was elected as Member of Parliament on a BJP ticket from Janjgir Lok Sabha seat in 2004 but lost from Korba in 2009.

While associated with BJP, She had occupied several organisational positions in the party and also headed the BJP’s Mahila Morcha or women’s wing.
