Two doctors arrested in fire mishap at Rajdhani Super Specialty Hospital

Raipur Police on Tuesday arrested two doctors in connection with death of COVID-19 patients in fire mishap at Rajdhani Super Specialty Hospital.

Dr Sachin Mal and Dr Arvindo Roy, both members of the hospital’s management board, were arrested for alleged negligence causing death of COVID patients in firs mishap, said Purani Basti City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Manoj Dhruv, elaborating that the action was taken on the basis of investigation findings.

CSP further informed that Dr Sanjay Jadwani and Dr Vinod Lalwani, who are also the board members, will soon be arrested.

CSP Dhruv further informed that during the course of investigation, it was learnt that adequate arrangements were not made in the hospital to deal with the fire incident. Moreover, the experts of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have also pointed to some negligence resulting in the tragic mishap based on the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI).

Investigation in the case is underway and soon two more doctors will be in the police net, CSP Dhruv.

It may be recalled that as many as five corona positive patients, including a woman, died after fire broke out in COVID-19 ward of Rajdhani Super Specialty Hospital in Raipur on April 17. As per information received, a patient was charred to death while others died due to suffocation. An offence in this connection was registered with Tikrapara police station under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

 At the time of mishap, around 30 patients were present in the ward. In the wake of the fire incident, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had expressed condolences and announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the family members of patients who died in the mishap.
