Field officials-employees under Electricity Department should follow COVID protocol while performing their duties: CM

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel addressed the field officials and employees of Power Companies from various districts of the state and discussed about their works and challenges on the field. Chief Minister was glad to know that the field officials-employees of the Electricity Department have continued with the electricity production and ensured uninterrupted supply to the consumers, even during this challenging time of COVID crisis. Chief Minister directed the officials and employees to strictly follow the COVID protocol, as it would help them stay safe and ensure safety of their families as well. He advised them to use masks and sanitizer regularly. He appreciated the officials-employees of Electricity Department for ensuring uninterrupted production and supply of electricity and for keeping up with the maintenance work. In the meeting, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Subrat Sahu, Secretary Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi, Special Secretary to Energy Department Ankit Anand were also present in the meeting.

Chief Minister said in his address to the meeting that it is summer season and people are staying home all the time because of lockdown, hence, uninterrupted electricity supply should be ensured to the consumers. Also, the pending work of irrigation pump electrification should also be completed at an expedited pace. Chief Minister said that presently, 32 thousand irrigation pumps of the farmers are to be electrified, and many districts have made significant progress in this direction. As the situation goes back to normal after lockdown, the work of electrification of irrigation pumps should be completed at an accelerated pace. In the meeting, Assistant Engineers and Assistant Linemen from various districts informed that the problems in electricity supply are being resolved immediately. Meter reading work is also being done regularly.

In the meeting, Chairman of power companies Ankit Anand told that 90 percent of the total estimated expenditure for treatment in hospital is being given as medical advance to the COVID infected departmental officers and employees. Contractual workers are also being priovided a medical advance of up to Rs 50 thousand.

The virtual meeting was attended by the Electricity Department officers and employees from Durg, Raipur, Kondagaon, Janjgir-Champa, Bastar, Mahasamund, Gariaband, Gorela-Pendra-Marwahi, Raigad, Kanker, Balod and Korba districts. In the meeting, officials and employees informed that the departmental staff is doing quick reforms in case of power supply disruptions. The COVID protocol is being strictly followed during the work. Officers and employees also informed that presently, the maintainence work is being done in case of an emergency. Chief Minister took information about operation of the Plant from the officials of Power Production Company in Korba. Officials informed that the power generation work is being done smoothly while following the COVID protocol. Chief Minister said that the work of electricity generation is important, but if any official or employee experiences cold, cough and/or fever, they should be granted leave to prevent spread of infection. Also the infected official/employee should be provided proper medical treatment. They were directed to ensure that no outsiders enter the plant. Chief Minister Baghel also inquired about the coal supply, in response to which officials informed that sufficient quantity of coal is available at present.

During the discussion with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Maheshwar Singh Sakar of Raipur district informed that the complaints recieved online, on telephone and via Mor Bijli app are being resolved as soon as possible. Mr. Rajesh Pandey (Junior Engineer) from Risali said that there are not facing any problem at work. He said that there are 5 sub-stations in the area, which are being monitored round the clock. When asked about the information on power consumption, Mr. Pandey informed that the power consumption has increased slightly in urban areas during lockdown, but the places where pumps are being operated in factory and farms, power consumption there is comparatively low. About the meter reading work, he said that 95 percent of the meters are placed outside the house. Hence, they face no problem in doing the meter reading work regularly. Households with COVID-patients are paying their electricity bills via Mor Bijli app. Junior engineer of Bastar region, Prashant Kumar informed that the officials and employees regularly use sanitizers and masks at the work place.

Assistant Engineer from Sarguja Santosh Kumar and Assistant Lineman from Balod Gokul Dewangan told that they wear masks and follow COVID protocol while working in the field. Junior Engineer of Raigarh Manish Kumar Sahu informed that 300 pumps have been given electricity connections so far. Assistant Engineer from Bemetara Gulab Ram informed that 2 thousand 177 pumps have been given electricity connections in the district. Mahasamund officials said that one thousand pumps have been provided electricity connections in the district. Junior Engineer of Janjgir Champa Mahesh Jaiswal informed that they are following COVID protocol while performing their duties.
