Amid current COVID-19 situation, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board on Monday decided to cancel the annual pilgrimage of Amarnath in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The pilgrimage for Amarnath, located at the height of around 13000 feet, was scheduled to be commencing from June 28. A decision in this regard was announced by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who is the chairman of the board, after having discussion with the members.
“Shri Amarnathji Yatra cancelled in wake of Covid-19 Pandemic. Decision after threadbare discussion with Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board members. Yatra to be symbolic only. However, all the traditional religious rituals shall be performed at the Holy Cave Shrine as per past practice,” tweeted the Lt Governor.
In another tweet, Sinha said “It’s important to save people’s lives. So, it is not advisable to hold and conduct this year’s pilgrimage in the larger public interest.”
