ATS arrests Muslim clerics for mass conversion

Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh arrested two Muslim clerics from Delhi for allegedly converting non-Muslims, particularly deaf and mute children, to Islam by luring them with money, employment and marriage.

The arrested were identified as Mufti Kazi Jahageer Alam Kasmi (52) and Mohammad Umar Gautam, (57), said police sources, adding that they were help from Jamia Nagar area in the national capital.

In preliminary investigation revealed that Gautam himself was recently converted to Islam, said police sources.

According to police sources, the mass conversion was carried out by duo through an organisation Islamic Dawah Centre (IDC) which allegedly received foreign funding. Investigators are closely scanning the bank account details of IDC as well as the accused duo. Besides, probe is underway to ascertain association of other people with the organisation as well as the arrested duo.

“The entire conspiracy recently came to light when police arrested two people who allegedly entered the Dasana Devi Temple in Ghaziabad with the intention to kill the temple’s head priest Yati Narsinghanand. In this connection, police have arrested two persons named as Vipul Vijay Vargiya and Kashi Gupta, who were later identified as Mohammad Rizwan and Kashif,” said police sources.

Prima-facie investigation revealed that Mohammad Rizwan recently converted to Islam and married to the sister of Kashif, added police sources.

“During interrogation, Gautam revealed that IDC carried out conversion of differently-able people by luring them with money, good education, job and marriage. He also revealed that Kasmi prepare illegal documents in this regard,” averred police sources.

 Further probe in the case is underway.
